The Takoma Park Mobilization will stand with our partner CASA at a White House rally to #DefendDACA, Tuesday starting at 9:30 am in Lafayette Park. That’s tomorrow, when Donald Trump is expected to announce an end to DACA, threatening over 800,000 currently-protected individuals with deportation over the next two years. We need to show up! Please see CASA’s call to action below and visit CASA’s Facebook event page.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an Obama administration program that defers deportation of undocumented individuals brought to the U.S. as children and allows them to work and study in the U.S. The rally will also support Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which has given refuge to thousands, mostly Central Americans, while their countries recover from natural disaster and/or political violence.
Meet us at 9:30 am in Lafayette Park across from the White House, or travel downtown with other TPMers. We’ll aim to meet on the Takoma Metro platform at 9 am, with a second group at 9:15 am. After rallying, at noon, we expect to march with CASA to continue the protest.
CASA’s call to action –
On Tuesday, Donald Trump will announce his decision regarding the future of DACA. And at 9:30 a.m., CASA will be in front of the White House, telling him that to dismantle the program would be unconscionable and un-American.
If you can, please donate to CASA to help us continue to organize and mobilize in support of immigrant communities. The threats from this administration are real, but together we can defend our communities and work towards long-term solutions that protect our families from insecurity, violence, and deportation.
