ACTION ALERT: Takoma immigrant detention center protest, Wed August 28, 6 pm

Join a Takoma protest against detention of immigrant children…

Wednesday, August 28, 6 pm-7 pm at the Takoma site of a proposed “shelter” to be run by a for-profit federal contractor, 6896 Laurel St NW, Washington, DC, steps from Eastern Ave NW.

Children fleeing their home countries need community services, support, and love, NOT for-profit prisons that isolate and re-traumatize them. We stand up for our community’s values and oppose the creation of detention facilities in Takoma or anywhere.

If you wish, join us for poster-making starting at 5 pm at the Old Takoma gazebo, 7035 Carroll Ave. We’ll have some materials, or bring your own, and we’ll have TPM t-shirts (donations welcome) or wear yours if you have one. Then we’ll walk together to the 6 pm rally.

Visit, Like, and Share the rally Facebook event page.

Mayor Muriel Bowser issued emergency regulations that would disallow licensing of the Takoma facility, but a proposed federal rules change would override local licensing.

Our community must speak out. Join us Wednesday, August 28, 6 pm in Takoma at 6896 Laurel St NW, Washington, DC.
